Ribbon Cutting for CTW Home Collection’s expanded Atlanta showroom, opened in 2013.
We wanted to know a little more about the Architect behind the breathtaking spaces at the Mart.
Architect, artist, and real estate developer John Portman designed the AmericasMart starting in 1961. His work has been described as Modernist and Brutalist. Many of his buildings feature glass elevators and soaring atriums. He is a painter, sculptor, and architect. He and his firm have shaped much of the Atlanta skyline.
Portman’s work has been featured in many movies. In 1981, Burt Renolds worked in the Westin and the Regency when he starred in Sharky’s Machine. More recent films using Portman’s work include Insurgent, The Hunger Games, The Walking Dead, and Interstellar.
CTW Home Collection is in Building 2, Showroom 731-A. Let’s meet at the Mart this Summer and admire one of Portman’s first major works. This international business hub reminds us that architecture and art are woven in the fabric of much of our commerce and buying decisions.
